TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The inventors have selected a new family of pyridinone and pyridinethione derivatives which have greater HIV inhibitory properties than existing compounds.
The compounds have been selected by a rapid, sensitive and automated assay procedure: an HIV-1 transformed T4-cell line, MT-4, served as the target cell line and inhibition of the HIV-induced cytopathic effect was used to find the most active compounds. IC50's 1 to 100 nanoMolar against 13 HIV single mutant and 4 double mutant strains.
