TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
This invention describes the isolation of the first member of a new human K+ channel family (DNA and protein sequence) and a method to produce this channel.
This novel K+ channel family, called TWIK (for Tandem of P domains in a Weak Inward rectifying K+ channel), contains two pore-forming regions called P domains. The mRNA of this channel is widely distributed in human tissues and is particularly abundant in the brain and heart.
The technology also includes a method to express the channel in a host (prokaryote or eukaryote host) and to use this transformed host.
