TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
This invention concerns a new class of antimicrobial peptides synthesized by molluscs. These molecules, called myticins, were isolated from the edible Mediterranean mussel, Mytilus galloprovincialis. The inventors tested the antimicrobial activity of myticin-a and myticin-b and found a large spectrum of toxicity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, fungus and protozoa.
