TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to the preparation of the functionalized carbon nanotubes; and a pharmaceutical formulation comprising at least one of the carbon nanotube in association with different type of therapeutic agents including peptides, proteins, nucleic acids and small drugs.
The advantage of the functionalized carbon nanotubes is that they have full-length functional groups, hence enable linking various active molecules; are soluble in wide range of organic and physiological solvents; are biocompatible; do not possess intrinsic immunogenicity; and can penetrate into cells, thereby carrying the covalently bound active molecules to cellular compartments. These nanotubes are non-toxic and small, resulting in better penetration cells and in cell nuclei.
