Background and key features

One dimensional semiconductor nanowires are widely studied for their promising properties. Unlike carbon nanotubes, silicon nanowires are always semiconductor and easily doped. Moreover, their dimensions should enable high density device integration. However, an effective control of the nanowires, not just the morphology but also their positioning/assembling, for direct large scale device integration has not yet been demonstrated.
