CONTEXT

Functional medical imaging is one of the fundamental tools for the comprehension of neurodegenerative diseases. Imaging contrast agents, either magnetic or scintigraphic, must be biocompatible, display a low toxicity, a great stability, be efficient at low concentrations and be targeted to specific organs or tissues. Combining all these requirements is still a challenge. Moreover, the development of such engineered biochemical tools is long and expensive, especially when it requires the synthesis of custom molecules.
