TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
This invention describes an innovative method to modulate intrathymic immunity by genetransfer using lentiviral vectors. Stable gene transfer into T-lymphoid progenitors by intrathymic infection may result in generation of gene-modified T lymphocyte progeny for an extended period.
This invention describes the use of viral vectors that integrate stably into the genome of thymic stromal cells, or intrathymic lymphocytes or lymphocyte precursors, to manufacture drugs for intrathymic administration to prevent or treat genetic or acquired immunodeficiencies, for the induction of immune tolerance of the organism to self or non-self gene products, cells or tissues, or for the prevention or treatment of autoimmune diseases.
