TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
This invention describes new cyclodextrin dimers particularly well suited for the encapsulation and solubilization in water of hydrophobic guest molecules with two functional units susceptible to interaction with the cyclodextrin cavity. Among appropriate guests are taxane anticancer drugs, steroids ... The technology also involves a modular method to build relatively complex, highly efficient dimeric cyclodextrin derivatives from readily accessible building blocks and avoids complex purification steps. In particular biorecognizable elements such as multivalent oligosaccharides can be incorporated for drug targeting, e.g. to macrophages, liver, colon. The methodology is well adapted to combinatorial strategies for optimization of drug inclusion and biological receptor recognition. Anchoring to solid supports for chromatographical applications is also possible.
