TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
This research group has identified conserved motifs in the region of the HTLV envelopes that interact with the receptor for the virus. Based on these motifs, they derived an oligonucleotide-based method which allows sensitive detection of fastidious HTLV and which they have used to identify new HTLV envelope variants. This method can detect and isolate all HTLV envelope-related sequences.
