CONTEXT

Some platinum-based compounds are known to be efficient anti-cancer drugs. Among these compounds, the cisplatin is one of the more frequently used in the world. Nevertheless, this compound do have limitations: its scope of activity is restricted, some cancer cells have or can develop a resistance towards it, its side effects are numerous and its only method of delivery is through intravenous as it doesn’t show good solubility in water.

Recently a new class of platinum-based compounds has been monopolizing scientists’ attention for its efficient anti-cancer activity: platinum-based N-heterocyclic carbenic complexes.
