USE OF THE TREK-1 AND TASK CHANNELS FOR SCREENING DRUGS THAT MODULATE THEIR ACTIVITY
Principal Investigator: M. LAZDUNSKI

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

This invention describes the cloning of a new member of the TWIK family : the human TREK-1 channel (TWIK RElated K+ Channel 1). The TREK-1 channel was cloned by a degenerate PCR technology using previously characterized sequences.
The inventors show that TREK-1 (both murine and human) and TASK-1 (human, TWIK-related Acid-Sensitive K+ - 1) are activated by volatile general anesthetics.
