TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
This invention describes the cloning of a new member of the TWIK family : the hTRAAK channel (human TWICK-Related AA-Activated K+ channel).
hTRAAK is expressed abundantly in the brain and placenta. HTRAAK is strongly stimulated by application of arachidonic acid as well as other polyunsaturated fatty acids. HTRAAK is also stimulated by riluzole.
The technology also involves a diagnostic test to detect human or animals diseases that may arise from mutations or overexpression in the hTRAAK genes.
