TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The invention describes a gene sequence encoding for an epoxide hydrolase enzyme from the fungus Aspergillus. This was cloned and overexpressed in another filamentous fungi Aspergillus niger.
The inventors have indentified an epoxide hydrolase activity in several filamentous fungis from enzymatic extracts.
These enzymes can be used for the production of epoxides and vicinal diols. These products are obtained with high optical purity (> 99 %) using this biocatalytic process, which can be run in plain water at room temperature.
