TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
This invention describes p44 MAPK-(Erk1) deficient mice obtained by homologous recombination in embryonic stem cells.
The p42 and p44 mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), also called Erk2 and Erk1, respectively, play a role in proliferation as well as in differentiation programs and because of their high homology (over 83%), their precise role have not yet been clearly defined.
By homologous recombination, 90% of the third exon of Erk1 was replaced by the PGK neo (neomycine resistance gene). This construction was used to generate homologous mice for this mutation.
