TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
This invention describes a passive optical component that can regenerate at high bit-rate an optical signal at 1.55 ¦Ìm. The device uses an ultra fast saturable absorber with a heavy ion irradiated quantum well, inserted into a FP microcavity. An all optical component is used for the invention to avoid the electronic complexity of existing solutions. It is less expensive to install and increases the maximum bit-rate by a factor of 4 compared to actual devices, allowing optical regeneration of 40Gbit/s data.
