TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
This invention describes a simple and versatile method for the fabrication of large areas of oriented and nanostructured polymer surfaces with a high orienting capacity. This two step method concerns the class of semi-crystalline polymers that can be prepared in their amorphous form e.g. polyesters such as poly(ethyleneterephthalate). Production is reproducible and fast (a few minutes), and the entire process is performed at room temperature.
The oriented and nanostructured polymer surfaces have excellent optical properties, good thermal resistance, a low surface roughness (one order of magnitude below state-of the art methods) and can therefore be used as alignment layers for many organic semiconductors and dyes. The polymer layers are also well suited to produce gate dielectrics with an orienting surface for Organic Field Effect Transistors (OFETs).
