TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
This
invention concerns new and biocompatible inorganic cement (OP3), for treatment
and sealing of dental root canal after pulp removal. As its competitors, this
cement can be easily spinned into the canal with a lentulo spiral and is
radio-opaque as requested by norms. This cement presents also some major
advantages over products actually marketed for these indications.
Compared with calcium
hydroxide-based pastes or cements
it has the same antimicrobial
effect
it releases strontium besides
calcium ions for better apical plug induction,
it hardens in situ and is
expansive (definitive material and not only temporary).
Compared with zinc
oxide-eugenol-based cements (ZOE)
besides instantaneous
antimicrobial activity, it presents also a long term antimicrobial activity;
It could also be used for
treatment of periapical lesions;
Its expansion properties allow
better sealing water tightness without necessarily resorting to gutta-percha
points.
CEMENT CHARACTERISTICS
-Initial
setting time at
37°C
(standard NF EN ISO 6876, Vicat needle
2 mm in diameter and 100g mass) = 12 min
-Final
setting time at
37°C
(Vicat needle
1 mm
in diameter and
400 g
mass) = 16 min
-Compressive
strength (cylindrical samples
4
mm diameter,
6 mm height)
at 1 day = 2-3 MPa
-Film
thickness < 50 µm (standard NF EN ISO 6876)
-Warping >
20 mm (NF EN ISO 6876)
-Working
time = 8 ±
1 min (NF EN ISO 6876)
-Time
during which the paste well attaches the lentulo » 10 min
-Radio-opacity
equivalent to 3,2-
5 mm
Aluminium
-Removing:
with an ultrasonic instrument.
BENEFITS
An instantaneous and long term antimicrobial effect:
Due to diffusion of hydroxyl ions (
OH-) through dentinal
tubules
Efficiency of
long term antimicrobial activity
