TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The invention describes transgenic plants which are resistant to the tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV). Based on biochemical studies the researchers have designed a specifically altered viral Rep protein which can interfere with viral replication. The inventors have produced transgenic tomatoes including this mutant Rep protein and have shown that these plants are resistant to TYLCV infection.
