CONTEXT
Malaria is responsible each year for 250-300 million clinical cases leading to 1 to 3 millions deaths. Plasmodium falciparum is the parasite of malaria that causes most deaths but other species such as P. vivax, P. malariae, P. ovale, P. knowlesi contribute to malaria in various areas. P. falciparum is the most dangerous of these infections as P. falciparum malaria has the highest rates of complications and mortality. Due to worldwide increasing resistance of Plasmodium falciparum against drugs, there is a real need to develop new chemical structures with new biological pathways.
