Two-dimensional detection for neutron radiation
P. Baroni and L. Noirez.

This novel neutron detector provides high resolution, quantitative measurement of intensity, scattered or diffracted into two dimensions, in particular at large angles. This invention can replace conventional monodetectors used at large neutron scattering angles.
The detector displays the linear time dependence of intensity. The minimal number of detectable neutrons (sensitivity) is less than 10 neutrons per cm² and per second.

Examples of results:

1) Polyethylene sample stretched along the c axis (horizontal) on a 99%D sample (elongation rate: 700%, sample-detector-distance: 45 mm, 2/l=2.662Å-1, acquisition time: 900s).

2) Lamellar phase of liquid crystal with layer spacing of 29 Å (a sample-detector distance of 30 cm, 2/l = 2.662Å-1, acquisition time: 3 x 300s).
