CONTEXT
A tissue is composed by an ensemble of cells that interact with one another to build the microenvironment which reflects the physiological state. Oxygen supply to tissues by the blood circulation is a key component as well as its diffusion in the tissue laying underneath the vessel wall.
The scientists have shown the drastic effect of the O2 partial pressure on tissues and organ physiology as well in normal healthy as pathological conditions on the modulation of cytokines and chemokines both inflammatory as immunomodulatory. They have demonstrated the key role played by the O2 concentration towards the soluble molecules activity and the cells response to microenvironmental conditions but also on the activity of the drugs used especially for anticancer therapy.
There is therefore a need to change and control the O2 pressure in cell cultures for biotechnological applications.
