With more than 4000 French priority patent applications filed during the last 20 years, the food and beverage industry is one of the most dynamic French fields with lots of small French companies investing in industrial property protection. This study aims at giving an overview of the volumes of patents and patent applications for each described industry and identifying the most active players (academic or industrial) in terms of patent filings.
The following industries are detailed in this report:
- Cereals based products (flour, starch and bakery)
- Beverages
- Fruits, vegetables and mushrooms
- Dairy products
- Fishes, shellfishes and seafoods
- Spices and condiments
- Sugar industry
- Oil and edible fats
- Desserts and candies
- Animal food
- Other sectors
This study includes all the priority French patents and patent applications having an IPC code concerning the food and beverage industry. The chosen IPC codes to constitute the patent corpus are listed in appendix of the document. The database was limited to patent applications filed since 1989 and therefore covering the last 20 years of industrial protection of the sector.
