THERAPEUTIC STRATEGIES OF THE NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASES BY USE OF A NUCLEIC ACID / POLYETHYLENEIMINE (PEI) COMPLEX
Principal Investigator: Barbara DEMENEIX,

CONTEXT

Neurodegenerative diseases constitute a major and increasing problem for public health among the aging population. Indeed, development of protocols for transferring genes into the brain became a priority. Such protocols are difficult to develop because they require safe transfer vectors which can overcome the blood-brain barrier. The use of cationic polymers (vectors) for delivering genes in vivo can provide high levels of expression in the brain. It therefore appears to be of major interest to develop for specifically targeting a transgene into the embryonic stem cells of the adult brain.
