STATE OF THE ART

Nanoparticles including photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy have already been described in several publications and patents. Nevertheless, few studies have reported covalent encapsulation of photosensitizers in silica based nanoparticles. Moreover, specific targeting of silica based nanoparticles by means of carbohydrates, specific ligands of cancerous cells, has not been identified for the moment.
