TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
This invention describes a familly of new biodegradable copolymers made of poly(alkylcyanoacrylates) and oligo- or polysaccharides. It also describes a method for the synthesis of these copolymers and of colloidal particles made of these copolymers. The preparation of the copolymers described in the invention is simple and performed under totally organic free solvent conditions. Preparation occurs in water according to a single step process. This method is very flexible for the synthesis of compounds with surface active properties and with easily controlled characteristics. The invention also describes polysaccharide-coated colloidal polymer nanoparticles with surface properties which can be easily modulated by the choice of polysaccharides. These nanoparticles are of special interest for pharmaceutical applications for drug delivery or as vaccine presentation devices.
