TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
This invention describes a new solid catalyst and a process to synthesize polyglycerol from glycerol. This process is selective and requires the use of basic catalysts. This new catalyst is mesoporous, heterogeneous, providing basic active sites due to the presence of alkaline compounds. This etherification is reached with a polymerization degree of 4, whereas existing products have a polymerization degree of 9. The main advantage of this new process compared to existing industrial processes is that the synthesis is selective and performed without toxic solvents.
