ANTIMICROBIAL COATING OF INORGANIC SUBSTRATES
Main inventor: P. Hubert MUTIN
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

The invention describes a coating process that imparts antimicrobial properties to inorganic substrates, by grafting antimicrobial functions. This versatile process can be applied to a wide range of functions and substrates, including metals and metal alloys, metal oxides, carbonates or phosphates. The coating can be deposited under ambient conditions or even in water, allowing the treatment of bulky pieces. This process is thus well adapted to the deposition of antimicrobial coatings on implants and surgical instruments.
For instance, bacteriological assays with the Pseudomonas Aeruginosa bacteria showed a significant decrease (75% to 90%) in the number of adhering bacteria on stainless steel or titanium samples treated according to the process, compared to untreated samples.
