This invention concerns a new anode material and a method of producing the said materialincorporates an active phase made up of a material M with a base of Al, Si, Sn, Sb or a mixture of these, and a support phase made up of a material XaYbOc, in which :O is oxygen; Y is a cation with a degree of oxidation m = 3, 4, 5 or 6; X is a cation with a degree of oxidation d = 1, 2, 3 or 5, X assuring the electro- neutrality of the XaYbOc and in which c is such that 2 <= c <= 10, b is such that 1 <= b <= 4 and a =(2c- bm)/d; an interface of mixed composition exists between the active phase and the support phase and is made up of the elements M, X, Y and O.
